Start with location and task: an indoor doormat inside entrances scrapes and absorbs to cut down tracked-in dirt and moisture, while anti-fatigue or sit-stand options suit fixed workstations and height-adjustable desks. Use floor cable covers through walkways to contain leads and reduce trips. Think about traffic and door movement too, choosing low-profile edges where doors sweep over and bevelled sides where trolleys or wheels pass. Run through these quick checks before you choose a mat for an office, reception or shop floor.

• Cover the whole footfall at entrances: common doormat coverages include 85 x 60 cm for compact doors, 90 x 150 cm for standard entrances, and 120 x 180 cm for wider lobbies.
• Allow at least two steps indoors for proper scraping and absorption, and size up for busy sites with frequent visitors or trolleys.
• Confirm door clearance. A low-profile mat around 9–14 mm helps doors glide without catching.
• Match workstation zones. Typical anti-fatigue footprints are 90 x 60 cm, 120 x 80 cm and 150 x 90 cm to suit bench runs or assembly points.
• Plan cable runs with linkable or long floor cable covers. Widths near 83 mm and lengths up to 9,000 mm help span crossings without gaps.

Materials, backing and care

PP (polypropylene) pile is tough and effective at scraping grit from soles, while microfibre absorbs moisture quickly to keep surfaces drier beyond the threshold. For standing comfort, rubber and vinyl foam provide cushioning, with rubber tops resisting wear in busy industrial or retail spots and vinyl foam offering a lighter, cost-effective build. PVC backings help mats stay put on hard floors, and bevelled edges lower trip risk and ease trolley access. For upkeep, shake out or vacuum doormats often and spot clean with mild detergent; sweep and damp mop anti-fatigue and rubber mats, then let them dry flat before putting them back in use.
